Important Info: This show will be performed in Russian with English subtitles

William Gibson’s 1958 play Two For The Seesaw is best known for the 1962 film adaptation of the same name, which starred names like Robert Mitchum and Shirley MacLaine, but in 2017 audiences will get a new insight into the classic story as it returns to the stage under the banner of the Sovremennik Theatre Season. The show runs at the Piccadilly Theatre alongside other shows in the season like Three Sisters and Three Comrades.

The Sovremennik Theatre is a Russian company and they put a new spin on Gibson’s classic text, presenting the production in their native language and with English subtitles. But the story still focuses on a lawyer from the US state of Nebraska and his trials and tribulations in New York. He meets a woman and a romance blossoms, but his feelings for his ex-wife linger, as do her temptations with other men.

For this staging at the Piccadilly Theatre the two main roles will be portrayed by Chulpan Khamatova and Kirill Safanov, following in the footsteps of Henry Fonda and Anne Bancroft, who originally tackled the parts on Broadway.

Two For The Seesaw appears as part of the Sovremennik Theatre Season at the Piccadilly Theatre from Monday 8th May 2017.
