Whisper House

In the heart of the West End various venues are welcoming some high profile, colourful musicals in 2017, but over at Victoria, where The Other Palace resides, a musical with a very different tone opens its doors in April. Whisper House, a musical ghost story that takes audiences back to the America of the 1940s, will head to the stage with an impressive cast of performers all working under the direction of Adam Lenson.

The show is the work of Duncan Sheik, who provides music for Kyle Sharrow’s book (together, they also provide the lyrics) and first presented the work in the US back in 2010. Meanwhile, the cast includes the West End regular Simon Bailey, who takes on a ghostly role in the production.

The story delves into the mysteries discovered by Christopher, who hears strange noises in his new home, with music and whispers audible beyond the walls as he struggles to rationalise what he is experiencing. He has been through a lot of change to find himself in this situation, having been relocated to live with his Aunt Lily and her housekeeper Yasuhiro following the loss of his father in the Second World War. So he must work out how much is real and how much is imagination in his new surroundings.

The full cast includes Bailey alongside Dianne Pilkington, Niamh Perry, Nicholas Goh and Simon Lipkin. Together they will provide some familiar faces for Whisper House, with Pilkington appearing in various shows over her career and cast in this year’s Young Frankenstein at the Garrick Theatre. Meanwhile, Simon Bailey is a West End regular, with appearances in Jersey Boys at the Piccadilly Theatre, Marry Me A Little at the St James Theatre (the old name for The Other Palace) and I Can’t Sing! The X-Factor Musical at the London Palladium

So expect big things as they bring Duncan Sheik’s 2010 musical to life in the capital. Whisper House plays at The Other Palace from Tuesday 25th April 2017 (previews from Thursday 6th April 2017).
