3 Reasons Why We Still Feel the Love for The Lion King Musical
The impressive Disney inspired musical has recently celebrated 16 years in London’s Lyceum Theatre. Since making its UK debut in London on the 19th of October 1999, it has quickly become one of our West End favourites. And with a talented cast, dazzling costumes and a heart-warming storyline, there’s no surprise why millions of others love it too.
It has been seen around the world
Since first premiering on Broadway in 1997, the show has been seen by 80 million people around the world with tours and performances taking place across North America, Mexico City, Japan, Australia, Tokyo, Madrid and Hamburg. Over 13 million theatregoers alone have seen the London production, which is now the West End’s sixth longest-running musical.
It’s an award-winning production
Combining a talented cast and crew with an impressive score featuring songs from the animated film by Elton John and Time Rice, the musical has won a number of highly acclaimed awards for both its London and Broadway productions. These accolades include six Tony Awards, a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album as well as a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Theatre/Show…to name just a few!
It’s been filmed from all angles
A recent performance of the Broadway production was filmed in 360 degrees. The virtual reality experience gives fans a glimpse of the musical from the performer’s point of view and allows them navigate around the stage for an up close look at the costumes, performers and effects.
