3 Shows Extend Their Stay in the Capital

The Mousetrap, Top Hat and Stomp All Booking Into 2013

The latest shows to announce booking extensions in the West End have been “The Mousetrap”, the long-running murder-mystery from Agatha Christie, “Top Hat”, the famous musical with Tom Chambers, and “Stomp”, the famous percussive dance show from Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas. All three are now booking into 2013 in the West End, having attracted high sales of theatre tickets.

“The Mousetrap” is a show that is used to extending its stay in the capital. After all, it first opened in the West End back in 1952, originally at The Ambassadors Theatre, and transferred to its current home of St Martin’s Theatre in 1974. Like other stories penned by Agatha Christie, the story is a murder mystery and the location is a large manor house that has been converted into a hotel. On a particularly snow-filled night a policeman arrives at the hotel to inform of a murder and it soon becomes clear that the culprit is someone in the hotel.

The play has remained in high demand since its opening and this is partly due to the hush-hush nature of proceedings, with audiences encouraged to keep silent as to its mysterious ending.

It is now booking at St Martin’s Theatre until Saturday 21st December 2013.

Meanwhile, “Top Hat” is a more recent addition to the West End, having opened its doors in April of this year. Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen take on the roles of Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont (apart from select performances in the summer and autumn), respectively, and the story centres on a tap dancer from American arriving London and meeting the girl of his dreams. Though misunderstandings stop her from loving him back, he will not give up and his quest takes him across Europe.

It is now booking at the Aldwych Theatre until Saturday 27th April 2013.

Finally, “Stomp” is another long-lasting show in the capital and occupies the original stage of “The Mousetrap” in the Ambassadors Theatre. It is described as a percussive dance show and sees the performers utilise a range of everyday items to produce their impressive show, from bin lids to steel toe-cap boots.

Having opened in the West End (originally at the Vaudeville Theatre) in 2002, “Stomp” is now booking at the Ambassadors Theatre until Sunday 22nd December 2013.
