Alison Steadman 'to star in West End'
Alison Steadman is gearing up to star in a new West End production, it has been reported.
According to Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail, the actress will play Madame Arcati in the classic Noel Coward comedy Blithe Spirit.
The production is set to be directed by Thea Sharrock and will begin running at the Apollo on Shaftesbury Avenue next year.
Mr Bamigboye is hopeful that Steadman will do justice to the role of Madame Arcati and predicted that she would be "perfect".
"She's got a sense of fun which just bubbles up from deep inside her," he commented.
Steadman has extensive theatre experience, thanks to her stints in plays such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
However, she will be equally well known to TV audiences, due to her appearances in shows such as Pride and Prejudice, Let Them Eat Cake and Adrian Mole: The Cappucino Years.
The actress also recently starred as Pamela in Gavin & Stacey.
