Full Casting Revealed for the Upcoming Jane Horrocks-starring Production in the West End

It has been known for some time that Jane Horrocks would be starring alongside Ayub Khan-Din in the latest staging of East Is East (better known as a 1999 film) from October 2014.
However, the cast members set to join them have also now been revealed, with Amit Shah among those set to portray the Khan family at Trafalgar Studios 1.

He has been announced alongside Taj Atwal, Sally Bankes, Pamela Bennett, Nathan Clarke, Michael Karim, Ashley Kumar, Darren Kuppan, Rani Moorthy, Deepal Parmar, Ash Rizi, Karl Seth and Hassani Shapi.
East Is East sends audiences to Salford in the 1970s and it is there that they meet a Pakistani family with George ‘Genghis’ Khan as its patriarch. He is at odds with his children in regards to their style of upbringing, with George preferring a Pakistani Muslim lifestyle that clashes with his children’s British identity and their desire to adhere to Western customs.
The story was a successful 1999 movie and spawned a sequel in 2010 that went by the name West is West. It was written by Ayub Khan-Din and starred Linda Basset in the role taken-on by Jane Horrocks in the West End.

Amit Shah has previously appeared in various London theatre productions and in television roles. For the screen he has appeared in The Smoke, Lilyhammer and Whites, in addition to films such as The Infidels. Meanwhile, those that have picked up theatre tickets over the years may recognise him from the likes of The Royal Hunt Of The Sun, The Alchemist, The Man Of Mode and The Hour We Knew Nothing Of Each Other, all at the National Theatre, plus Bombay Dreams at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, The Hot Zone at the Lyric Hammersmith and Free Outgoing at the Royal Court Theatre.

The production appears at Trafalgar Studios as part of Jamie Lloyd’s second Trafalgar Transformed season. It is the first production as part of the series not to be directed by Lloyd himself, with those duties falling on Sam Yates on this occasion.

East Is East is at Trafalgar Studios 1 from Wednesday 15th October 2014 (previews from Saturday 4th October 2014).
