An Arabian Night We’ll Never Forget – Aladdin The Musical Opens in London.
Following huge success on Broadway, the magic of Aladdin The Musical has made its way across the Atlantic and finally opened for London audiences at the Prince Edward Theatre. With the promise of all our favourite classic Disney songs and characters played by an extremely talented cast, we simply couldn’t wait to get a glimpse of Agrabah and headed down to see the show.
It really is a whole new world…
Based on the classic fairy tale of a street urchin named Aladdin who, with the help of his sidekicks and a magical Genie, embark on an adventure to win the heart of Princess Jasmine and conquer the evil Jafar’s plot to rule the land.
The production offers something for everyone of all ages and took us right back to our youth with its impressive array of glittering costumes, colourful set designs and catchy tunes that we simply couldn’t help but sing along to.
Whilst we had no doubt it would be a truly magical night, the hotter than hot musical included a few extra surprises and characters for good measure which, without giving too much away, transformed the spectacle it into a show unlike one we’ve ever seen before on the London stage.
A friend like GENIE!
Dean John Wilson and Jade Ewen make the perfect pair as Aladdin and Jasmine, with the brilliant Trevor Dion Nicholas reprising his role as Genie after playing the character on Broadway. The musical also features the song ‘Proud of your Boy’, which was originally cut from the Disney film.
Other musical numbers to look forward to of course include Aladdin and Jasmine’s magical carpet ride whilst belting out ‘A Whole New World’, a song which took home the award for Song of the Year at The Grammys in 1994. Genie’s ‘Friend Like Me’ is another firm favourite and along with its feast of magic tricks and catchy lyrics, does not disappoint.
Our verdict? A well-deserved standing ovation! So ring bells, bang the drums, you’re going to love this show – book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
