Ben Forster in Evita at the Dominion Theatre
Touring Jesus Christ Superstar Performer Appearing in the West End Revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical
The Dominion Theatre is currently empty following the closure of the long-running musical We Will Rock You earlier this year, but some top shows are set to land at the venue before 2014 comes to an end.
Evita is first up. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is appearing at the Dominion Theatre later this month for a brief appearance in the West End prior to the arrival of White Christmas from November. It had already been revealed that the Wet Wet Wet star Marti Pellow would be appearing in the production alongside Madalena Alberto in the title role, but now another name can be added to this list – Ben Forster. He joins the cast following his appearance in the arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Evita is the well known Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that looks at the life of Eva Perón, the wife of the Argentinean president Juan Perón in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The musical follows her early years and continues to tell her story as she rises to power and captures the hearts of millions before looking at her tragic death in 1952. It is well known not only for focusing on an important historical figure, who remains the Spiritual Leader of the Nation of Argentina to this day, but also for featuring the famous musical number Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.
It was first staged in the West End in 1978 and was later performed around the world, earning numerous awards – including numerous Olivier and Tony Awards – along the way.
Ben Forster landed the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar as the winner of the ITV talent show Superstar, which was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ITV follow up to BBC shows like Any Dream Will Do, I’d Do Anything and Over The Rainbow. Thanks to the win he appeared in arenas around the country and also took the production Down Under, though he has also appeared in Thriller Live at the Lyric Theatre and The Rocky Horror Show on tour.
Evita is at the Dominion Theatre from Monday 22nd September 2014 (with previews beginning on Tuesday 16th September 2014) to Saturday 1st November 2014.
