Big Names Added to Download Festival
It has been announced that Def Leppard will be joining the line-up of the 2011 Download Festival, joining other announced acts such as System of a Down and Linkin Park. It means that the headliners are all in place ahead of the June event, with Leppard headlining Friday and the others following on Saturday and Sunday.
But they are not the only recently announced acts that have been added to the list – Bring me the Horizon, Frank Turner and Disturbed have also been added to the bill, joining other acts such as Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine, The Cult, Escape the Fate, Korn, Pendulum and Rob Zombie, among others.
Def Leppard are the famous English rockers from Sheffield that have been releasing various albums and singles since the late 1970s, from their debut album in 1980 to their most recent release “Mirrorball” which will in stores in 2011.
The current line-up is the same as it has been since guitarist Vivian Campbell joined the group in 1992 and also includes Joe Elliot as lead singer, Phill Collen as guitarist, Rick Savage as bass guitarist and Rick Allen on the drums. The band first emerged with their debut album “On Through the Night” in 1980 and would follow it up throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s with albums such as “High ‘n’ Dry”, “Pyromania” and “Hysteria” (in the 1980s), plus further releases like “Retro Active”, “Euphoria”, “Yeah!” and “Mirrorball”. So with such a long career it is likely that there will be plenty of rock fans flocking to pick up festival tickets to witness the latest in Download’s illustrious career.
There has been a music festival at Donington Park since the 1980s, with the Monsters of Rock event taking place between 1980 and 1996, then in 2002 Ozzfest appeared. Download took its place afterwards and in the intervening years it has welcomed such acts as Guns ‘N’ Roses, Linkin Park, Slayer, My Chemical Romance, Tool, Deftones, The Prodigy, Biffy Clyro, Amplifier and more.
The Download Festival 2011 takes place at Donington Park from Friday 10th June 2011 to Sunday 12th June 2011.
