Birdsong role 'just clicked' for Ben Barnes
British actor Ben Barnes has been speaking about how his desire to appear in an adaptation of the Sebastian Faulks novel Birdsong became a reality.
In an interview with BBC News, he said he first read the book around five years ago and was so moved, he wept.
Although he looked into appearing in a movie version, this never materialised, so Barnes said he was thrilled when it was revealed a stage version was to come to the Comedy Theatre.
"This came along and something clicked," he explained.
Barnes also revealed he had the seal of approval from Faulks, who said upon meeting him that he appeared just as he expected his character Stephen Wraysford to look when he was writing the novel.
The actor will be appearing as army officer Wraysford from September 28th 2010.
Those who enjoy stories set during World War I may also wish to look into getting theatre tickets for War Horse, which is showing at the New London Theatre.
