Cats Returning Once Again to the London Palladium
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Blockbuster Musical Announces its Latest Brief Season this Year from October
It only recently finished it latest run at the London Palladium in late April, but already another run of performances has been announced for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats, arguably the composer’s most successful musical. The show is one of many of his that have found an enormous audience in the West End and its latest appearance here has accumulated plenty of attention since it emerged last year.
The well known story, with its iconic visuals, is based on the book of poetry penned by T.S. Eliot called Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats and introduces those with theatre tickets to the Jellicle Cats. We find them during this annual meeting at the Jellicle Ball and it is here that they are to hear the wise words of Old Deuteronomy, whose big announcement is met with great anticipation. He is to announce the identity of the cat who is to gain access to the Heaviside Layer, where they will be reborn.
Along the way, audiences are also treated to musical numbers like The Awful Battle Of The Pekes, Memory, Mungojerrie And Rumpleteazer and The Journey To The Heaviside Layer, to name but a few.
The show is directed by Sir Trevor Nunn, the original director of the New London theatre run from 1981 who returned to helm the revival last year. The award-winning director has been behind a wealth of famous shows around the West End during his illustrious career, including Les Misérables, The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby and A Chorus of Disapproval, among others, winning various Olivier Awards. He is also currently the Artistic Director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket, having previous held the same post at the National Theatre.
There is still more to be revealed regarding the latest revival, including casting, but it is a given that the show will be attracting a large number of theatregoers when it opens its doors later in the year.
Cats makes its next appearance at the London Palladium from Friday 23rd October 2015 to Saturday 2nd January 2016.
