Could “Cilla Black The Musical” Become A West End Reality?
Latest news suggests that Cilla Black wanted her life to be turned into a West End show and that could soon be a reality as meetings are being held to determine if a stage show could actually be the perfect tribute to the late entertainer.
Reports suggest that Cilla even met with senior theatre officials prior to her death to discuss the potential of a West End show. As plans were put on hold, there is now talk of fulfilling Cilla’s wish and creating a fitting theatre show that showcases Cilla’s talents being brought back to life.
Rumours suggest Sheridan Smith, who portrayed Cilla in the recent TV biopic, is hotly tipped to take the lead role and transition Ms Black from screen to stage. Following favoured reviews of her TV performance, Smith is perfectly positioned to take the stage role and create a magical theatre experience.
Cilla Black had granted permission to theatre bosses to create a West End show so it’s exciting to think this could now get the nod to go ahead.
Cilla Black was the queen of British TV in the 1990s and led a colourful life from her first encounter with The Beatles to her success has a singer in the 1960s and 1970s. She earned the title of the UK’s biggest selling single by a female artist in the 1960s.
In 2013, comedian and chat show host Paul O’Grady honoured Cilla’s 50 years in show business with a one-off entertainment special, “The One and Only Cilla Black”. This paid homage to her lifetime of entertaining.
Cilla Black died on 1st August 2015.
