Damian Humbley and Jon Robyns Among the Dickens Abridged Cast at the Arts Theatre
Kit Orton, Gerard Carey and Matthew Hendrickson Also Appearing in the Upcoming Production in the West End
Dickens Abridged was recently announced as a show headed to the Arts Theatre in November, following the upcoming production of The Pyjama Men. The show hits the West End with the creators of The Complete Works Of Shakespeare (Abridged) and The Reduced Shakespeare Company calling the shots.
Now a cast list has been revealed for the production with Damian Humbley taking on the role of Charles Dickens and additional cast members like Jon Robyns, Kit Orton, Gerard Carey and Matthew Hendrickson portraying well known literary characters from Dickens’ work.
Dickens Abridged is from one of the founding members of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, Adam Long, and it is described as a comic journey through the world of Charles Dickens and his literary creations. Characters like David Copperfield, Ebenezer Scrooge, Fagin and Oliver Twist are among those that audiences with theatre tickets will see on the stage.
Damian Humbley, who plays Dickens himself, is an Australian performer whose work has included production on both sides of the world. Down Under he has been a part of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts though he is better known for his work in the British Isles, from Lend Me A Tenor at the Gielgud Theatre and Merrily We Roll Along at the Menier Chocolate Factory (and later the Harold Pinter Theatre) to Shoes at the Peacock Theatre and Company at the Sheffield Crucible.
Meanwhile, Jon Robyns is perhaps best known for his current work on Spamalot on a UK tour and at the Harold Pinter Theatre (the production also features Kit Orton, who appears in Dickens Abridged), though over the years he also appeared in Avenue Q at the Noel Coward Theatre, Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre and Chess at the Royal Albert Hall, among other shows.
Dickens Abridged, by Adam Long, follows the mentioned The Pyjama Men at the Arts Theatre and runs concurrently with Suessical. Both appear during the Christmas season with Dickens Abridged opening on Wednesday 27th November 2013 and continuing to Sunday 5th January 2014.
