Damon Albarn forms new band
Damon Albarn has formed another side project away from Blur with Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and drummer Tony Allen.
The Blur frontman told Stuff.co.nz the new record will also feature some of his favourite African artists.
Although the group does not yet have a name, he said that the album was three-quarters complete.
He told the news site that a lot of the music is centred on what is done by Nigerian-born Allen, with the inclusion of the Chilli Peppers' bassist, coming about after he joined Albarn on his African Express tour.
"Flea of course is an anagram for Fela and Flea is so into this music - so that's been great," Albarn added, referencing the Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti.
The vocalist for Blur and The Good, The Bad and the Queen is currently on tour with his other group Gorillaz, with the band set to play UK shows throughout this month, kicking off in Manchester on the 12th.
