David Bedella Returning to In The Heights at the King's Cross Theatre
Cast Members Announced for Southwark Playhouse Transfer
The sell-out show at the Southwark Playhouse, In The Heights, transfers to the King’s Cross Theatre this October, with Sam Sheppard directing the hip-hop musical that also wowed audiences on Broadway.
Now the cast members have been announced for the upcoming production, with many of those from the Southwark Playhouse production making the journey to King’s Cross, including David Bedella as Kevin, plus Josie Benson, Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, Sam Mackay, Sarah Naudi and Eve Polycarpou.
Meanwhile, the cast for the upcoming London theatre production is also set to include Jade Ewen, Lily Frazer, Antoine Murray-Straughan, Joe Aaron Reid, Cleve September, Jocasta Almgill, Courtney-Mae Briggs, Michael Cortez, Gabriela Garcia, Reiss Hinds, Alexandra Sarmiento and Spin.
Conceived by rapper Lin-Manuel Miranda (music and lyrics) and featuring a book by Quiara Alegria Hudges, In The Heights takes us to the Washington Heights neighbourhood of New York City, where we meet the inhabitants of this community. Songs put together with hip-hop and other musical styles punctuate the daily struggle of the Dominican-American characters and we explore their world across three days.
As well as appearing at the Southwark Playhouse, In The Heights has also been seen across the Atlantic. It originated in Connecticut in 2005 before landing on Broadway in the years following, earning Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize nomination along the way.
Actor David Bedella joined the show in Southwark and has appeared in various high profile shows over the years, including The Producers on tour in 2015. His credits include The Rocky Horror Show at the Playhouse Theatre (from September 2015), Jerry Springer The Opera at the National Theatre (and West End), Chicago in the West End, Torch Song Trilogy at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Chess In Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, with various credits in the United States as well.
In The Heights is set to run in rep with The Railway Children when it opens in October. The latter production has been running at the King’s Cross Theatre since the end of 2014, with the venue behind King’s Cross Station specially designed the house it.
