David Calder and More in The Audience at the Apollo Theatre
Cast Members Joining Kristen Scott Thomas When the Popular Show is Revived Later in the Year
The production saw Helen Mirren reprise her role of the Queen (from the film of the same name) as she meets with various well known Prime Ministers. This time around that part is to be played by Kristen Scott Thomas.
Now, however, it has also been announced which actors will be taking on the roles of these Prime Ministers, with David Calder set to play Winston Churchill alongside a host of other talented performers.
The Audience explores the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, in particular the meetings that she has held with the country’s Prime Ministers over the decades. As would be expected, these meetings are bathed in secrecy and as a result those outside of the doors can only guess as to their content. This is also true of writer Peter Morgan, who has had to imagine the contents of the conversations, but as he is one of the country’s most talented writers, he has come up with something that has taken audiences by storm as the Queen comes face to face with everyone from Winston Churchill to Margaret Thatcher.
David Calder, who plays Churchill, has appeared on television and film screens in a number of roles, with credits such as The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, The World Is Not Enough, Heartbeat, The Wrong Mans and Casualty. He has also enjoyed a successful stage career and in addition to his current role in The Nether at the Duke of York’s Theatre, he has appeared in The Futurists at the National Theatre, Rock ‘n’ Roll at the Duke of York’s Theatre and Twelfth Night for the Royal Shakespeare Company, to name but a few.
Other actors playing Prime Ministers in The Audience include David Robb as Anthony Eden, Sylvestra Le Touzel as Margaret Thatcher, Michael Gould as John Major, Nicholas Woodeson as Harold Wilson and Gordon Kennedy as Gordon Brown, plus Marnie Brighton, David Peart, Charlotte Moore, Izzy Meikle-Small, Madeline Jackson-Smith, Matt Plumb and Harry Feltham.
Currently the home of My Night With Reg, the Apollo Theatre welcomes The Audiences from Saturday 2nd May 2015 (previews from Tuesday 21st April 2015).
