Debbie Kurup and More Join Seasons Of Larson at the Lyric Theatre
Fans of the hit musical Rent and in particular the music that makes up its famous score are in for a treat in the New Year as Seasons of Larson celebrates the man behind that music at the Lyric Theatre.
The show was revealed early last month and it will see the late Jonathan Larson celebrated twenty years after his death in 1996, with director Hannah Chissick calling the shots and an array of performers showcasing some of his best work as a composer.
Now the production has announced the names of some of those heading to the stage in January, with Debbie Kurup, Krysten Cumming and Damien Flood all revealed in a new press release. They are all alumni of Rent.
Debbie Kurup, for example, appeared in Rent at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the early 2000s and also on a UK tour. Beyond the hit musical she has also found success on other stages, including the recent productions of The Bodyguard at the Adelphi theatre, which saw her earn the nomination for Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Role in a Musical. Her other credits include Chicago at the Adelphi Theatre, Anything Goes on tour, Fame on tour and Sister Act at the London Palladium, amongst others.
But now she contributes to this celebration of Jonathan Larson, who died in January 1996 just when Rent was beginning to appear in front of audiences off-Broadway, though his work earned him a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Drama, ensuring a lasting legacy. Beyond Rent, he was also the composer of the show tick, tick... BOOM! and provided work for television shows as well.
Seasons Of Larson appears on the off-day for the ongoing Thriller Live, meaning that the Lyric Theatre is the home of two celebrations of late musicians in 2016. Thriller Live has been running since 2009 and was retooled following the death of Michael Jackson so that his whole life and career was reflected onstage.
The celebration of Seasons Of Larson appears for one-night only at the Lyric Theatre on Monday 25th January 2016.
