Elisabeth Hopper in The Tempest at the Haymarket Theatre
The Actress is Currently Appearing in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead at the Same West End Venue
Later in the year Ralph Fiennes is set to be the latest Hollywood star to make his way to the West End stage in the upcoming production of “The Tempest” at the Haymarket Theatre. It will also be one of many Shakespearean productions running in the capital in 2011, following “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Wyndham’s Theatre and “Richard III” at the Old Vic Theatre with Kevin Spacey.
The news today concerns the actress Elisabeth Hopper who is currently starring in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” at the Haymarket Theatre. She is set to take on the role of Miranda in the production when it opens later in the year and this will be the latest in a long line of roles in the theatre scene. “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” sees her take on a minor role in a show that looks at Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” from the point of view of the courtiers mentioned in the title. Tom Stoppard’s show has been popular ever since it was first seen in the 1960s.
Hopper’s other credits across the country include “The Big Script” at the Soho Theatre, “Elegy” at the SHUNT London, “Edmond” at the Haymarket Theatre, plus the likes of “Plain Jane” at the Manchester Royal Exchange. However, with the high profile role in “The Tempest” it is likely that we will be seeing a lot more of her in the future.
After all she will be working alongside Ralph Fiennes, who will soon be seen in the latest “Harry Potter” movie and has accumulated credits that include “Red Dragon”, “Schindler’s List”, “The English Patient”, “The Constant Gardener” “The Reader” and “In Bruges”, in addition to theatre roles like “Oedipus the King” at The National Theatre.
The rest of the cast for the upcoming West End production includes Clive Wood, Julian Wadham, Giles Terera and Tom Byan Shaw, all of whom have appeared in a wealth of productions across the capital.
“The Tempest” runs at the Haymarket Theatre from Tuesday 6th September 2011 (previews from Saturday 27th August 2011) until Saturday 29th October 2011.
