Extensions for Dreamgirls and Kinky Boots

Thursday, 22nd Dec 2016

Kinky Boots - Adelphi Theatre

Once again we turn our attentions to some of the capital’s high profile musicals as they announce new dates for their respective runs in the West End. One is Dreamgirls, which recently opened at the Savoy Theatre, and the other is Kinky Boots, which has been playing for over a year at the Adelphi Theatre.

Dreamgirls has been one of the more anticipated productions of the latter half of 2016, with Amber Riley portraying Effie White (a member of band The Dreams, at the heart of the 1960s-set show) at the Savoy Theatre. It has only just opened its doors at the venue (though previews have been ongoing since November) and it has already proven to be one of the capital’s newest gems.

The Broadway classic has been a popular one since it was first seen on the other side of the Atlantic in the early 1980s and has also been adapted into a film as well, which saw Jennifer Hudson play Effie White. This production at the Savoy is the first opportunity for West End audiences to get a look in and this extension announcement is a likely indication of great things to come.

Dreamgirls continues at the Savoy Theatre and thanks to the new extension is now booking there for performances up to Saturday 21st October 2017.

Meanwhile, Kinky Boots has also been a popular hit with audiences and like Dreamgirls has amassed great reviews. So the announcement that it too will extend in the West End comes as no surprise.

The production opened at the Adelphi Theatre in August of 2015 and has since attracted theatregoers from across the capital. It follows the story of Charlie Price and the help he receives from performer Lola in turning around the fortunes of his failing shoe factory. Along the way we hear musical numbers like Land Of Lola, Everybody Say Yeah and Beware The Black Widow, amongst others.

The cast currently includes David Hunter, Matt Henry, Cordelia Farnworth, Alan Mehdizadeh and Elena Skye.
