Extensions for Matilda, Phantom and Jersey Boys in the West End
The Three Shows Add New Dates into 2015, with Jersey Boys Also Adding Michael Watson to the Cast
Three of the West End’s biggest musicals are adding new dates into 2015 at their respective homes, giving audiences in the capital further opportunities to pick up theatre tickets. Matilda The Musical, The Phantom of the Opera and Jersey Boys are extending to May 2015, April 2015 and February 2015 respectively.
Matilda The Musical is the popular and critically acclaimed musical based on the book by Roald Dahl and famously features music and lyrics from comedian Tim Minchin, whilst Dennis Kelly works as playwright. It tells the story of a young girl with extraordinary intellect who uses her skills to put people in their place – something that becomes even easier when she develops supernatural powers.
The production has been running at the Cambridge Theatre since November 2011, taking over from the long-running Chicago, and thanks to the current extension is now booking at the venue until Sunday 24th May 2015.
Meanwhile, The Phantom Of The Opera has been running for much longer. The show is the second longest running musical in the capital after Les Misérables and celebrated its 25th anniversary show in 2011 following its opening at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1986. It tells of a disfigured young composer lurking beneath the Paris Opera House, who takes a shining to a beautiful young opera singer.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical has been seen around the world and has also spawned a movie version. It also led to a high profile sequel, Love Never Dies, which ran at the Adelphi Theatre in recent years.
Meanwhile, the original The Phantom Of The Opera continues to entertain audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre and due to its extension is now booking at the venue until Saturday 25th April 2015.
Finally, Jersey Boys extends at the Piccadilly Theatre and in doing so welcomes performer Michael Watson into the role of Frankie Valli from Tuesday 29th April 2014. The actor has appeared in numerous musicals in the capital and now joins a production that will earn a big boost later in the summer when a movie version from director Clint Eastwood opens worldwide.
Jersey Boys continues at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre and is now booking until Sunday 15th February 2015.
