Fitzrovia Radio Hour Headed to the Ambassadors Theatre
The Hit Show from Last Winter to Return to the Capital from February to March 2012
It has been announced that a show which entertained audiences at Trafalgar Studios 2 last winter following its popular appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will once again be entertaining London theatre audiences as it returns to the Ambassadors Theatre. “The Fitzrova Radio Hour” will appear at the West End venue alongside the long-running “Stomp”, which remains at the venue indefinitely, and will play from the middle of February to the beginning of March in 2012.
“The Fitzrovia Radio Hour” is a group of comedians that have appeared on stages around the country and together they spoof early radio drama. They are Jon Edgley Bond, Alix Dunmore, Alex Ratcliffe, Phil Mulryne, Tom Mallaburn and Martin Pengelly and they have been a part of the group since 2008, whilst various guest actors have also made appearances from time to time. They previously appeared in London in 2010 in Shoreditch and in the Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe before their appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010. Following that they appeared concurrently with “Barbershopera: Apocalypse No!” at Trafalgar Studios 2 in January 2011.
The spoof shows take audiences back in time and as a result they get to witness spoof versions of shows that they might have seen in the 1940s with three plays from a selection of five appearing each night. These plays are performed live by the actors listed and they also provide sound effects from items that they can get their hands on. Though the plays appearing this year are yet to be confirmed, last year the plays included “He Should Have Known His Place”, “Captain Fasthand and the Rooty Gong” and “The Undead Queen of Evil!” Whichever shows make an appearance audiences can expect plenty of mimicking of the era, including the classic British stiff upper lip.
London audiences wishing to witness “Stomp!” at The Ambassadors Theatre will still be able to as the show is currently booking to Saturday 15th December 2012. “The Fitzrovia Radio Hour” will run concurrently with it from Tuesday 14th February 2012 to Tuesday 6th March 2012.
