Getting Down In The Heights
After a sell-out premier at Southwark Playhouse in 2014, the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit musical In The Heights is back and in full swing at the King’s Cross Theatre where it has extended its initial limited 4 week run until 3 January 2016. This welcomed announcement came as music to the ears of theatregoers who have not yet had the chance to see the show.
Set in Manhattan’s vibrant Washington Heights, the story follows a group of Dominican-American characters and the pressures they face in everyday life as a community as well as individuals. The musical, which made its original debut on Broadway in 2008, has received 13 Tony Award nominations as well as taken home 4 awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. In 2009 it was also awarded a Grammy Award for its Original Broadway Cast Album.
The new London production stars Rocky Horror’s David Bedella who has reprised his role as Kevin alongside a number of other familiar faces including Sam Mackay in the role of Usnavi and Sugababes band member Jade Ewen as Vanessa. Other returning cast members include Josie Benson as Camila, Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as Daniela, Sarah Naudi as Carla and Eve Polycarpou as Abuela.
The King’s Cross Theatre is a new purpose-built theatre located at King’s Cross Station. An exclusive late night bar has also been opened at the venue for theatregoers to enjoy for an hour before each performance with live music and DJ sets on certain nights.
Choreographed by Drew McOnie the musicals infusion of catchy music, sizzling dance moves and a gripping storyline is not to be missed. So be sure to grab your In The Heights tickets before performances close in the New Year!
