Isle of Wight Festival goes green
Organisers of the annual event are taking steps to safeguard the environment by using renewable and eco-friendly power sources wherever possible.
The measures are being taken after the festival won the Greener Festival Award in 2009.
This year's headline act, Sir Paul McCartney, said he is glad the award has prompted organisers to take further action in 2010.
"It will highlight to audiences that times are changing and we all have to do our bit at events such as these," he commented.
The former Beatle added that the Isle of Wight Festival's efforts to help the environment will encourage others in the music industry to look at best practice.
Sir Paul joins an eclectic bill at this year's event, which includes Jay-Z, The Strokes, Florence and the Machine and Doves.
Acts such as Blondie, Daisy Dares You and Suzi Quatro are also set to perform.
