James Clyde in Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre
Joshua Wyatt, Lisa Davina Phillip and Mike Denman Also Among the New Cast Members Joining in September
A casting announcement emerges for the popular production of Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre. Alex Gaumond and Kay Murphy have already been revealed to be joining the show in September and now further names have been added.
James Clyde is among the names, along with Joshua Wyatt, Lisa Davina Phillip, Mike Denman, Juliet Gough, Antony Lawrence, Katie Lee, Antonio Magro, Gary Murphy, David Rudin, Hollie Taylor and Amy Thornton. Meanwhile, Hayley Flaherty is set to remain in the role of Miss Honey whilst the new additions hit the stage.
Matilda The Musical follows the plot of Roald Dahl’s book and introduces us to the title character – a girl with an amazing ability to teach people lessons – and over time she uses this to put people in their place. This is something that becomes even easier when she gains telekinetic powers.
The musical version opened at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon and eventually relocated to the Cambridge Theatre in the West End, both times shepherded by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Among the talent involved is director Matthew Warchus, writer Dennis Kelly and musician/lyricist Tim Minchin, making it a popular choice for those deciding on west end shows.
James Clyde joins the cast as Mr Wormwood and he does-so on the back of recurring roles in television series like Leonardo, Above Suspicion: Deadly Intent and The Bill, in addition to appearances in New Tricks and Anonymous. For the stage his credits have included Twelfth Night at the Cottesloe National Theatre, Hamlet at The Young Vic, Closer To Heaven in the West End and The Lucky Ones at the Hampstead Theatre. He has also appeared in additional productions at venues around the country.
The last time that Matilda The Musical was in the news was when Alex Gaumond was announced in June, which coincided with the news that the American version had scooped four Tony Awards, following in the footsteps of British shows like Billy Elliot The Musical doing well on the other side of the Atlantic.
Matilda The Musical continues at the Cambridge Theatre in the West End and is currently booking to Sunday 25th May 2014.
