Jamie Muscato in Bend It Like Beckham at the Phoenix Theatre

Friday, 4th Dec 2015

The hit production of Bend It Like Beckham makes it back into the headlines this week as the production reveals its latest casting announcement. Having opened at the Phoenix Theatre in the summer of this year with Jamie Campbell Bower in the role of Joe, the show is now set to continue past December with Jamie Muscato in his place.

He will join Natalie Dew in the production, as well as Lauren Samuels, with his performances beginning on the 14th December.

Bend It Like Beckham is based on the hit film of the same name and follows the character of Jess who is about to make a big decision about her life. An Indian girl living in the United Kingdom, her dreams are at odds with those of her family whom she will soon have to face at an upcoming wedding ceremony. She could take an academic route to appease them, but her real dream is to become a star footballer like David Beckham.

The musical production follows in the footsteps of Billy Elliot and Legally Blonde as it started life as a film before becoming a popular West End stage musical.

Jamie Muscato helps it along by developing on the skills he has learnt as a performer for many years. From television to the stage, the actor has accumulated many credits including the film version of Les Misérables and the television mini-series Cilla. London audiences might recognise him from roles in the likes of House Of Mirrors And Hearts at the Arcola Theatre, Dogfight at the Southwark Playhouse, The Light Princess at the National Theatre, Rock of Ages at the Shaftesbury Theatre and Love Story at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Now he joins Bend It Like Beckham and in addition to the mentioned performers, the show also stars Sophie-Louise Dann, Jamal Andreas, Preeya Kalidas, Tony Jayawardena and Natasha Jayetileke.

Bend It Like Beckham continues at the Phoenix Theatre and is currently booking there for performances up to Saturday 20th February 2016. Jamie Muscato joins the production on Monday 14th December 2015.
