The Spoils - Trafalgar studios - Jesse Eisenberg

Matthew Perry isn’t the only Hollywood actor to pen a play and head to the West End in 2016 as this week brings news that current Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg will bring The Spoils to the Trafalgar Studios in May.

Best known to audiences for his film roles, including his villainous role as Lex Luther in the current superhero smash up still playing in cinemas, Eisenberg has also taken numerous jobs on the stage and penned The Spoils in recent years, eventually premiering it in New York last year.

The Spoils introduces us to the character of Ben, someone who bullies those around him and lives in a world of self-loathing. The story follows him as he discovers that someone he fancied in school is getting married and he makes it his business to ruin the big day for her so that he can win her heart.

Eisenberg will play Ben in the production and he does so following many years of well known acting roles that has included parts in Adventureland, 30 Minutes Or Less Zombieland, Now You See Me and The Social Network, to name but a few. His stage credits include The Revisionist and Asuncion, both of which he also penned.

He commented on bringing the show to London: “The Spoils explores issues as disparate as stunted sexuality and the politics of the deposed Nepalese Monarchy, NFL on Fox and the fluctuating prices of tea on the agrarian market.

“It's about how all of these seemingly unrelated things intersect to create a portrait of life in a complicated, heterogeneous society. I’m thrilled to perform this play in London, such an incredible centre for theatre.”

In addition to Eisenberg, the cast will also include Kunal Nayyar in the role of Kalyan. He is best known for his role as Rajesh in the hit series The Big Bang Theory and also starred in the production in the United States.

The Spoils runs at the Trafalgar Studios 1 from Thursday 2nd June 2016 (previews from Friday 27th May 2016).
