John Simm in Harold Pinter's The Homecoming at Trafalgar Studios 1
Jamie Lloyd Returns for his Latest Run of Shows at the Trafalgar Studios with the Harold Pinter Classic
Jamie Lloyd has been bringing an array of shows to the Trafalgar Studios in recent years, presenting well known names like James McAvoy in the likes of Macbeth under the Trafalgar Transformed banner. Now it has been revealed that he is set to bring another production to the venue as he presents The Homecoming at Trafalgar Studios 1 from November. The show marks the 50th Anniversary of Harold Pinter’s play and welcomes cast members like John Simm, Gary Kemp and Gemma Chan.
The Homecoming takes audiences to North London, where Teddy is returning from his American home to visit his family and introduce them to his wife Ruth. It is their homecoming and what they find there is a claustrophobic environment with resentment festering between those around them. One of them is Max, Teddy’s father and retired Butcher, as well as his brothers Lenny and Joey, plus chauffer Sam.
Gary Kemp plays Teddy, with Gemma Chan as Ruth, plus further cast members that include Keith Allen as Sam, Ron Cook as Max, John Macmillan as Joey and John Simm as Lenny.
The play was written back in 1964, but this show marks the 50th anniversary of its premiere in 1965, where it played at the Aldwych Theatre in London with cast members like Ian Holm performing under the direction of Peter Hall. It later transferred to New York in 1967 and in the process earned the Tony Award for Best Play. So it has a history of wowing those that pick up theatre tickets.
Jamie Lloyd, who directs the show, had this to say about the new production: “This is a significant anniversary for this iconic, game-changing play and I couldn’t be more excited to be creating it with this dynamic cast of powerful actors.
“This production is the first project from our company’s new and ambitious slate of work that I can’t wait to announce over the coming months. I am thrilled to be introducing Pinter’s masterpiece to a new and diverse audience at Trafalgar...”
Currently the home of Oresteia, Trafalgar Studios 1 welcomes The Homecoming from 14th November 2015.
