Rent - St James Theatre

Rent’s arrival at the St James Theatre is getting ever closer, though it has been a while since we have heard updates from the anticipated revival, which previously revealed a large list of names set to be taking on its iconic parts. This is rectified this week with the revelation of further names set to play characters like Benjamin Coffin III when the production opens at the Theatr Clwyd in October.

The production runs at the acclaimed Welsh venue prior to a national tour and its arrival in London in December.

The new names joining the likes of Ross Hunter and Billy Cullum are Joshua Dever and Javar La’trial Parker. They join a whole host of actors who will be directed by Bruce Guthrie.

Rent is, of course, the story of artists living in Bohemia – in particular the East Village of New York City. Because of their relationships with one another and their lifestyles they face many difficulties and during the course of the show we touch on many life changing topics like the AIDS crisis as we learn to live in the moment.

Having premiered in New York in 1996 this revival marks the 20th Anniversary of the moment in which it was first seen. Having gone on to become one of the best known musicals in the world this celebration is bound to attract a lot of attention.

Which will of course be good news for actor Joshua Dever, who has appeared in many different musicals during his career, including the Open Air Theatre’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar. His credits include Spring Awakening, The Great American Trailer Park Musical at the Waterloo East Theatre, The Rocky Horror Show on tour and Tonight’s The Night also on tour.

The anticipated 20th Anniversary Production of Rent comes to the St James Theatre following its nationwide tour and opens at the London venue on Thursday 8th December 2016.
