Joshua Dowen in Footloose The Musical at the Peacock Theatre
Once again we turn our attentions to the upcoming touring production of Footloose: The Musical, which is set to appear at the Peacock Theatre this September as part of its journey around the UK. Following the previous announcements that Gareth Gates and Maureen Nolan would be taking on the roles of Willard and Vi Moore respectively we now get word that Joshua Dowen will be stepping into the lead part of Ren McCormack.
If that last name sounds familiar it’s because Ren McCormack was the part played by Kevin Bacon on the big screen when Footloose first emerged as the 1984 film (it was later remade in 2011 with Kenny Wormald in the role).
Despite its age, Footloose continues to find fans all over the world and this has only been amplified by the presence of this musical, which was first seen in the United States at the end of the last century.
It is of course the story of Ren, who moves from the city of Chicago to the countryside, finding himself in a community called Bomont where dancing is banned. So if he wants to bring the town around to his way of thinking he is going to have to use his dancing skills to his advantage, putting him at odds with the authorities.
So Dowen will have some big shoes to fill when he breaks out the dance moves at the Peacock Theatre, but he won’t be alone as he is joined by fellow cast members Hannah Price, Lindsay Goodhand, Connor Going, Reuven Gershon, Laura Sillett, Emma Fraser, Gracie Lai, Dominic Gee Burch, Alex Marshall and Tomas Wolstenhome.
The actor also has various credits to his name, having appeared in shows like All Or Nothing on tour, Cool Rider at the Duchess Theatre, Cinderella at the Harlow Playhouse and Tick…Tick…BOOM! at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, amongst others. So he has plenty of experience to bring to the table when he takes on the role of Ren at locations around the United Kingdom.
Footloose The Musical runs at the Peacock Theatre from Tuesday 12th September 2017 to Saturday 30th September 2017. It hits the road before that, however, beginning at the New Wimbledon Theatre in April and then heading to locations like Coventry, Preston and Chester, amongst other locations (though the press release points out that Wimbledon and Chester will not feature Gareth Gates).
