Kate Fleetwood in High Society at the Old Vic Theatre
The Upcoming Revival Gains its Cast Members Ahead of its Opening in April
Back in November it was revealed that Maria Friedman, the well known entertainer, would add to her credits as director by helming Cole Porter’s High Society at the Old Vic Theatre. The show is set to open in April in a year that also sees Kevin Spacey’s performance in Clarence Darrow revived for London theatre audiences.
Now cast members have been announced, with Tracy Lord set to be portrayed by Kate Fleetwood, with Jamie Parker as Mike Conner, Ellie Bamber as Dinah Lord, Barbara Flynn as Margaret Lord, Anabel Scholey as Liz Imbrie and Rupert Young as CK Dexter. Between them they have all amassed a host of credits in the London theatre district.
The musical, famous for featuring the likes of Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosy in the 1950s big screen version, focuses on the character of Tracy Lord and has many suitors vying for her attention ahead of her wedding. She is soon to marry George, but her ex-husband CK Dexter wants her back, so both men want to spend their lives with her whilst a reporter, there to report on the proceedings, has also taken a shine to Lord in the process.
Kate Fleetwood takes on the role of Tracy Lord on the back of numbers theatre credits that she has accumulated since the 1990s. Her work in the last decade includes Mr Burns at the Almeida Theatre, King Lear at the National Theatre, The Winter’s Tale for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Hecuba at the Donmar Warehouse, among others, though she has also become a familiar face on the screen as well, with roles in Philomena, Les Misérables, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part I, The Widower, Waking The Dead and Silent Witness, to name but a few.
The show is one of many high profile musicals and dance shows making a return in 2015, with other venues in the capital welcoming the likes of Gypsy (Savoy Theatre) and Lord Of The Dance (Dominion Theatre).
High Society is at the Old Vic Theatre from Thursday 14th May 2015 (previews from Thursday 30th April 2015) to Saturday 22nd August 2015.
