Ellis Returning to the Role of Elphaba in the Production from August 2014

It has been revealed that Kerry Ellis is set to return to the production of Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in August 2014. The well known musical star previously played the role of Elphaba in the show from 2006 to 2009 and has also appeared in a wealth of other musicals in the West End, so her return to the production in Victoria will likely drum up big interest in ongoing performances.

Wicked is one of the West End’s stand-out musicals and has regularly attracted big crowds over the years. It is a prequel story to the ever-popular The Wizard Of Oz and introduces us to two young girls in the playground of Oz. One is a beautiful and popular girl and other is ugly and cursed with emerald green skin. This rivalry cannot be contained in the playground forever, however, and eventually it spills out and affects all of Oz as one grows up to be Glinda the Good Witch and the other Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.

The latter role is currently inhabited by Willemihn Verkaik and she is soon to step down for surgery. She will then be replaced by Emma Hatton from 21st July 2014 to 2nd August 2014 before Kerry Ellis takes over from 4th August 2014 to 25th October 2014.

Earlier in the month it was reported that Nikki Davis-Jones is set to join the production as Elphaba and this remains the case. She takes over from Kerry Ellis from 27th October 2014.

Liza Sadovy and Philip Childs are also set to join the production in October as Madame Morrible and Doctor Dillamond respectively. Meanwhile, Savannah Stevenson continues to play Glinda the Good Witch.

Kerry Ellis, in addition to Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, has also appeared in the likes of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre, We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre and My Fair Lady at the National Theatre.

Wicked continues at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and, having opened in 2006, is currently booking to Saturday 25th April 2015.
