Killian Donnelly in The Commitments at the Palace Theatre
Additional Cast Members Include Denis Grindel, Jessica Cervi, Padraig Dooney, Mark Dugdale, Ben Fox, Brian Gilligan, Sean Kearns, Andrew Linnie, Stephanie McKeon, Joe Woolmer and Matthew Wycliffe
A casting announcement emerges for the West End production The Commitments, which opens at the Palace Theatre next month, with an array of performers linked to the roles made famous by Roddy Doyle’s novel.
West End regular Killian Donnely will take on the role of Deco in the production alongside newcomer Denis Grindel as Jimmy. Further cast members include Jessica Cervi as Bernie, Padraig Dooney in the ensemble, Mark Dugdale as Derek, Ben Fox as Joey, Brian Gilligan as Billy, Sean Kearns as Jimmy’s Dad, Andrew Linnie as Dean, Stephanie McKeon as Natalie, Joe Woolmer as Mickah and Matthew Wycliffe as Outspan.
Roddy Doyle’s The Commitments was the first in his so-called Barrytown Trilogy and it introduced audiences to the lead character Jimmy Rabbite, portrayed by Denis Grindel in the stage version, who is hired by Outspan and Derek Scully with the intention of making it as a musicians. Rabbite must guide them as they have little idea of how to translate their skills for the music scene and his input leads to their forming of The Commitments, a well-received soul band that could land them great success.
Killian Donnelly’s name stands out on the cast list as he is a well known actor who has appeared in a wide range of west end shows. His credits have included the likes of Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre (as well as the 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2 Arena), The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre and Billy Elliot The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre, among others. He has also appeared onstage in Dublin and in numerous productions across the country.
The Palace Theatre was recently the home of Derren Brown’s latest show Infamous, which finished its brief run in mid-August. It becomes the home of the Jamie Lloyd-directed The Commitments on Tuesday 8th October 2013 (with previews beginning on Saturday 21st September 2013) and is then set to continue at the venue until Sunday 26th January 2014.
