Kit Harrington in Doctor Faustus at the Duke of York’s Theatre

Wednesday, 27th Jan 2016

Fans of Games Of Thrones will be eager to get to the West End this April as it has been announced that Jon Snow himself Kit Harrington will be taking to the stage of the Duke of York’s Theatre in Doctor Faustus.

The production not only boasts this well known actor in a lead role, but it will also get a boost by its director, Jamie Lloyd, whose success with his regular seasons at the Trafalgar Studios has made him into one of the most sought-after directors in the capital.

Doctor Faustus is, of course, the well known story of the eponymous character who strikes a deal with Devil himself. The production’s press release indicates that the show is getting a makeover, transporting the events of Christopher Marlowe’s original to our celebrity obsessed culture. So Faustus wishes for the power of a conjuror and this thrusts him into the spotlight and only time will tell if this deal will eventually be his undoing.

The producers will certainly be happy with a name like Kit Harrington in the cast. He takes on the title role in the production and will undoubtedly be bringing with him many fans of the hit HBO series Games Of Thrones. The actor has a range of credits and was already well known to London audiences prior to his breakthrough in the fantasy television series thanks to his portrayal of Albert in War Horse at the Olivier National Theatre. His most recent stage credit was in Posh at the Royal Court Theatre.

“I have been away from the theatre for six years,” he said, “so the combination of Colin Teevan’s inventive version of Marlowe’s extraordinary play in the hands of the visionary director Jamie Lloyd all felt like the perfect reason to come back.”

Doctor Faustus will be a production of the Jamie Lloyd Company at the Duke of York’s Theatre. Audiences will be able to see it when it opens in April 2016. Check back here for further updates prior to its arrival.
