Malcolm Sinclair in Show Boat at the New London Theatre
Last month the big news emerged that a revival of Show Boat would be headed to the West End, replacing the outgoing War Horse at the New London theatre, and now some more names have been revealed in relation to the project, courtesy of London Theatre Guide.
So whilst Gina Beck was amongst the names announced in February, March sees a long list of names revealed, including Malcolm Sinclair in the role of Captain Andy Hawks. His announcement comes alongside Chris Peluso, Lucy Briers, Sandra Marvin, Alex Young and Danny Collins.
Show Boat takes us to the Mississippi and tells a story that chronicles four decades in the lives of those working aboard the Cotton Blossom show boat. Spanning a period from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th we witness a bygone era that has captured the hearts of audiences ever since it was first performed in the late 1920s.
The show is perhaps best known for the song Ol’ Man River, as famously performed by Paul Robeson, that it also includes other musical numbers like Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man and Make Believe, amongst others.
And performer Malcolm Sinclair steps into the role of Captain Andy Hawks with plenty of experience under his belt. The performer has accumulated credits on the stage and screen over the years, with roles in prestigious shows like Uncle Vanya for the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Power Of Yes at the National Theatre and My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Audiences might recognise him for his work on the television series Pie In The Sky, whilst his other credits include Casino Royale, V For Vendetta and Midsomer Murders, to name but a few.
As well as the mentioned performers, the rest of the cast of Show Boat will include Rebecca Trehearn, Emmanuel Kojo, Tosh Wanogho-Maud, John Coates, Laura Darton, Kit Esuruoso, Ryan Pidgen, Nolan Frederick, Linford Johnson, Kate Milner-Evans, Javar La’Trail Parker, Maria Omakinwa, Mykal Rand, Christina Bennington, Leo Roberts, Adam Dutton, Victoria Hinde, Linda John-Pierre, Simbi Akande, Dale Evans, Georgie Ashford, Joshua Da Costa and Tom Partridge.
Show Boat opens at the New London Theatre from April 2016.
