Marcus Brigstocke Set to Appear in the Return of The Railway Children

Saturday, 19th Mar 2011

The Comedian and Actor Will Portray Perks the Stationmaster at Waterloo Station

Earlier in March it was announced that The Railway Children would be making a welcome return to the capital, running at Waterloo Station during the same months that it did in 2010. However, various locations are reporting on some new casting news which seems to have been revealed by Baz in the Daily Mail. It seems that Marcus Brigstocke will be the latest comedian to make his way to the London theatre scene in 2011 as he takes on the role of Perks the Stationmaster in the anticipated production.

The news emerges just as another comic performer, Lenny Henry, reveals his return to the stage in “The Comedy of Errors” at The National Theatre.

Brigstocke is best known as a stand-up comedian who has been seen regularly on television screens and on stages around the country, with numerous appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as well. He was last seen in the capital in his one-man show “Marcus Brigstocke: God Collar” at the Vaudeville Theatre, though his other credits include television shows “Argumental”, “Have I Got News For You”, “The 11 O’Clock Show”, “Live at the Apollo” and “I’ve Never Seen Star Wars”, with a movie appearance in “Love Actually” as well. He has also worked on the radio where his shows have included “The Code of the Woosters” and “The Now Show”.

“The Railway Children” tells the story of Bobby, Peter and Phyllis who find themselves relocated to Yorkshire alongside their mother when their father is falsely arrested for selling secrets to the Russians. In their new home they become fascinated with the nearby train tracks and they also befriend a local railway porter – leading to memorable adventure and an opportunity to get their father out of prison.

Those with theatre tickets will find themselves travelling to the disused Eurostar Terminal in Waterloo Station where a makeshift performance space has been created to create a unique atmosphere. The show originally ran at the location last year following a previous run at York’s National Railway Museum.

The Railway Children returns to Waterloo Station with a run from Saturday 18th June 2011 until Sunday 4th September 2011.
