American Actor Set to Take on the Iconic Role as Peter Jöback Steps Down from the Part in September
It has been announced that Peter Jöback is set to step down from the role of The Phantom in the West End’s famous production of “The Phantom of the Opera” next month and American actor Marcus Lovett will replace him, following up his work on the show on Broadway. It ensures that those that pick up theatre tickets in the United Kingdom will have an opportunity to witness the rising star on a West End stage.
Marcus Lovett has made a mark on Broadway will appearances, not only in “The Phantom of the Opera”, but also in “Les Misérables”, “King David”, “Carousel” and “Aspects of Love” on the other side of the Atlantic. Meanwhile, he has previously appeared in the West End in a production of “Whistle Down the Wind” at the Aldwych Theatre, whilst audiences in this country might also recognise him if they have seen movies like “Pieces of April”, “Jeffrey” and “Lucky Break”, among others, with many of his screen credits appearing in the 1990s.
“The Phantom of the Opera” is one of the West End’s longest running shows and has been entertaining audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre since 1986, meaning it celebrated its 25th birthday in 2011 with a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall (following up the previous year’s celebrations of “Les Misérables” at the O2). It tells the story of a mysterious figure lurking beneath the Paris Opera House, who makes his presence known whenever something doesn’t go his way. When Christine Daaé, a beautiful young performer, fails to get a part in a new show he ensures that there is all hell to pay.
In addition to Lovett, there are other cast members joining the production from Monday 3rd September 2012 such as Anna O’Byrne as Christine Daaé, Lara Matins and Simon Thomas.
“The Phantom of the Opera” continues is run at Her Majesty’s Theatre and is currently taking bookings to Saturday 27th October 2012, ensuring that it will be on its way to celebrating its 26th birthday shortly.
