Mark Benton in Cool Rider at the Duchess Theatre
The Hobson’s Choice Actor Appearing in The Cult Musical Sequel in April 2014
It was only recently revealed that Mark Benton would be appearing in this summer’s Hobson’s Choice at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and now news has emerged that he will be appearing in another production in London this year. Benton is set to portray teacher Mr Stuart in the Duchess Theatre’s Cool Rider: The Cult Musical Sequel when it returns to the West End in April.
The production originally appeared for two performances at the Lyric Theatre earlier in 2014 and will enjoy a brief run of shows at the Duchess Theatre this month. It is the stage production of Grease 2 and returns audiences to Rydell High School and introduces a new generation of characters.
Mark Benton has appeared in a wealth of British television programmes during his career, whilst also making a name for himself on the stage as well. For the latter, his credits include As You Like It at the Lyric Hammersmith, Richard III for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Hurly Burly at the Old Vic Theatre, The Front Page at the Donmar Warehouse, The Railway Children at the Waterloo Station Theatre and the touring version of Hairspray The Musical. However, audiences picking up theatre tickets will undoubtedly recognise him from screen work as well, ranging from the remake of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) to Waterloo Road and Northern Lights. In between he also appeared in movies like The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus.
The production will also feature Bronte Barbe, Stewart Clarke, Joshua Dowen, Niki Evans, Harry Francis, Luke Fetherston, Ashleigh Gray, Lucinda Lawrence, Hannah Levane and Aaron Michael Sidwell.
Cool Rider sees Sidwell and Gray take on the roles previously taken-on by Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer on the big screen. They are the lovers studying at Rydell High School, the location at which we witnessed the romance between Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbroski in the original Grease. Musical numbers include the title track Cool Rider, Rock-a-Hula Luau (Summer Is Coming) and We’ll Be Together, among others.
Cool Rider appears at the West End’s Duchess Theatre, following Tell Me On A Sunday, from Tuesday 15th April 2014. It is then followed by Bakersfield Mist from May.
