Maureen Lipman enjoying When We Are Married
Maureen Lipman has stated that she is enjoying taking on the role of Clara Soppitt in the play When We Are Married.
Taking to the Daily Telegraph, the actress said that she is relishing the chance to perform in the role of the "northern battle-axe", explaining that she does not think the character is too far removed from her own.
She explained that she has a history of playing people who are not very nice people - such as Kitty McShane in On Your Way - and cannot play her new role as a stock character as a result.
"During the previews the audience have been practically hissing at me. They love to hate me. I don't mind that at all," Lipman told the newspaper.
The play, which is being performed at London's Garrick Theatre, also features performances from Sam Kelly and Susie Blake, with bookings being taken until February 26th 2011.
