Natalie Casey in Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre
The Two Pints-Star Follows in the Footsteps of Sitcom Co-Star Sheridan Smith
Legally Blonde the Musical is making no attempt to step out of the spotlight following its win at the recent Laurence Olivier Awards for Best New Musical. Today it announces that Natalie Casey will be stepping into the production, making her the second performer from “Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps” to appear in the West End show. She is also the latest actor to join the Cast in recent weeks, with Lee Mead announcing his appearance in the production earlier in the month.
Casey follows in the footsteps of her “Two Pints” colleague Sheridan Smith, who previously occupied the role of Elle Woods (now portrayed by Susan McFadden) and landed the Best Actress in a Musical Olivier Award during the ceremony this month. In addition to the popular BBC Three sitcom, London theatre audiences will recognise her from television programmes such as “Chopratown” and west end shows such as “Well” at the Apollo Theatre and Trafalgar Studios, plus “Fame” at the Shaftesbury Theatre. She has also accumulated a wealth of credits on other stages around the country.
“Legally Blonde the Musical” follows Elle Woods as she meets with her boyfriend, anticipating some exciting news. She expects a marriage proposal but what she gets is a break-up and realising that he wanted someone a little more serious Elle soon sets out to prove that she can be as serious as the next girl. Once she has pulled herself together she ditches the credits cards and signs up for a course at Harvard Law.
The story follows the plot of the original 2001 movie, which features Reece Witherspoon in the lead role, with supporting cast members including Luke Wilson.
The show beat other musicals like Love Never Dies to land the Best New Musical Award at the 2011 Laurence Olivier Awards and this was one step in a journey that has been marked by great success. The show regularly attracts large audiences and continues to be a popular production ever since it first opened its doors back in December 2009.
Legally Blonde the Musical runs at the Savoy Theatre and, with a recent extension, is now booking until Saturday 31st March 2012.
