Nicole Scherzinger in Cats at the London Palladium
Former Pussycat Dolls Performer Joining the West End Revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical
Back in June it was revealed that Cats would be making a triumphant return to London’s West End with a short engagement at the London Palladium. There has been a lot of talk connected with the announcement and that talk is set to continue as one of the cast members is revealed.
Nicole Scherzinger, best known for her work with The Pussycat Dolls, is set to take on the role of Grizabella in the production.
In addition to the world-famous pop star, the cast will also include Cameron Ball, Kathryn Barnes, Cassie Clare, Ross Finnie, Charlene Ford, Ryan Gover, Barry Haywood, Alice Jane, Adam Lake, Grace McKee, Paul F Monaghan, Joel Morris, Natasha Mould, Benjamin Mundy, Joseph Poulton, Nicholas Pound, Dane Quixall, Sophie Ragavelas, Clare Rickard, Adam Salter, Laurie Scarth, Zizi Strallen, Hannah Kenna Thomas, Callum Train, Libby Watts and Dawn Williams.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s famous musical is the story of the Jellicle Cats as adapted from a book of poetry by T.S. Eliot called Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats. The mentioned group meets annually for the Jellicle Ball in which the wise Old Deuteronomy will make a big announcement. He will reveal the identity of the feline who will be given access to the Heaviside Layer, a location in which they can be reborn.
Musical numbers along the way include Mungojerrie And Rumpleteazer, The Naming Of Cats, Memory and Journey To The Heaviside Layer, among others, and these songs have stood up alongside the array of characters and imaginative setting to create a show that has become of the most famous in recent decades.
So Scherzinger’s involvement in the new production should ensure that it remains amongst the most famous in years to come. She will appear from 6th December 2014 to 7th February 2015 and many will be attracted to theatre tickets at the London Palladium as a result. The performer released two albums with The Pussycat Dolls – PCD in 2005 and Doll Dominations in 2008 – and has also had success as a solo performer, an X-Factor judge and a musical theatre performer. In the latter category she has appeared in Rent at the Hollywood Bowl and Two Lost Worlds in New York City. Cats will be her West End debut.
The London Palladium has a busy season ahead of it, with The Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games currently playing there and shows such as Bobby Socks and Blue Jeans and Christmas With The Rat Pack around the corner.
Cats, meanwhile, runs from Thursday 11th December 2014 (previews from Saturday 6th December 2014) to Saturday 28th February 2015.
