The Shrek The Musical Star Set to Portray a Judge in Harry Hill’s Anticipated Musical Based on the ITV Talent Show

Some casting news emerges today, which it indicates that Nigel Harman, perhaps best known for recently playing Lord Farquaad in Shrek The Musical, will be portraying the lead judge in Harry Hill and Steve Brown’s I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical at the London Palladium.

The show was originally revealed in March under the title of X Factor – It’s Time To Face The Musical and was officially unveiled two months later with its new, current, title. It is said to be an affectionate look at the ITV talent show during a time when such productions have been in the West End spotlight already. Viva Forever, the Spice Girls musical, featured a television talent show and The Golden Voice has been running at the Arts Theatre since July. The latter looks at the dark side of fame and closes on Saturday 31st August 2013.

I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical takes a look behind the scenes of the talent show, looking at what happens beneath the judges’ desk. As Harry Hill is behind the production, however, audiences should not expect an entirely accurate portrayal, but instead an affectionate and funny one.

As mentioned, Nigel Harmon appeared in Shrek The Musical and won a Laurence Olivier Award for his efforts, though he has also appeared in other west end shows. His credits include Guys And Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre, The Common Pursuit at the Menier Chocolate Factory, Three Days Of Rain at the Apollo Theatre and A Chorus of Disapproval at the Harold Pinter Theatre. For television he is best known as Dennis Rickman in EastEnders, with additional credits like Downton Abbey, Hotel Babylon and Plus One, among others.

He will star alongside Cynthia Erivo whilst working under the direction of Sean Foley, responsible for a range of shows in the capital.

The London Palladium is currently the home of A Chorus Line, with The Nutcracker On Ice set to be among the shows to follow. I Can’t Sing – The X Factor Musical runs from Wednesday 26th March 2014 (previews from Thursday 27th February 2014).
