Noel Sullivan in We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre
The Former Singer of Hear’Say Joining the Cast of the West End’s Blockbuster Musical from March 2012
Despite being one of the most popular shows in the West End it has been a while since “We Will Rock You” made it into the news, but it does so today in the form of a casting announcement for the part of Galileo. Noel Sullivan, formerly of the pop group Hear’Say, is to play the role from March as Alex Gaumond, who currently portrays the character, steps down from the production.
Noel Sullivan has previous London theatre productions to his name, perhaps most notably – at least for West End audiences – in “Grease” at the Piccadilly Theatre. He also appeared in “Flashdance” in 2008, “Fame” on the other side of the Irish Sea and “We Will Rock You” as part of its UK tour. With Hear’Say he found himself in the charts with songs such as “Pure and Simple”, which was highly publicised following the group’s formation as part of the reality television series “Popstars”, which preceded the likes of “Pop Idol” and “The X-Factor” as musical TV talent contests.
“We Will Rock You” opened at the Dominion Theatre back in 2002 following almost a decade of planning. Penned by comedian Ben Elton it introduces audiences to a group of freedom fighters known as the Bohemians – of which Galileo is a member alongside Scaramouche - who strive to return the world – now known as Planet Mall 300 years in the future – to the time of the Rhapsody. To do so they will need to face the evil Killer Queen, a tyrant at the head of the Globalsoft Corporation that rules the world and bans expression and music.
It famously utilises the songs of rock band Queen as the show’s musical numbers, meaning audiences get to hear the likes of “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Who Wants to Live Forever”, “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “We Will Rock You”.
Those with theatre tickets can also witness the performances of actors like Brenda Edwards, Alasdair Harvey, Rachel John, Kevin Kennedy, Lauren Samuels, and Wayne Robinson.
“We Will Rock You” continues at the Dominion Theatre, with Sullivan performing in the production from March to October, and is currently booking to Saturday 20th October 2012.
