The Buddy Holly Musical Star Joins the cast of the West End’s Latest Musical

The latest casting news coming from the West End concerns the current production of Million Dollar Quartet at the Noel Coward Theatre. The show has so-far seen Oliver Seymour-Marsh appear in one of the lead roles of Carl Perkins on certain nights and from late March 2011 the musical performer, best known for his work portraying Buddy Holly, will be taking on the role full time. He joins Bill Ward, Ben Goddard, Michael Malarkey, Derek Hagen and Francesca Jackson in the London theatre production of the Broadway hit.

It is not the first time that Seymour-Marsh has portrayed a well known rock ‘n’ roll star onstage. He previously played Buddy Holly in “The Buddy Holly Story” on a UK tour, as well as throughout Europe and in the US. His other musical theatre credits include “Dreamboats & Petticoats” – another musical based on rock ‘n’ roll – on a UK tour. He has also appeared in numerous productions at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchuch, namely productions such as “Aladdin”, “Ladies Down Under” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum”.

In “Million Dollar Quartet”, the latest in a long line of jukebox musicals to appear in the West End – alongside Dreamboats and Petticoats and 2011’s Rock Of Ages – he will portray the “Blue Suede Shoes” artist Carl Perkins. The musician was one of many performers to find himself in the same recording studio as Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley in the 1950s and the recordings they made together became known as the “Million Dollar Quartet” – often heralded as the first rock supergroup. This is the focus of the new musical and the show features an array of songs from each singer’s back catalogue.

The production is one of many new musicals appearing in the capital this year. “Rock of Ages” was recently announced at the Shaftesbury Avenue, whilst 2011 also sees the likes of Shrek The Musical, Ghost The Musical and Betty Blue Eyes arrive in Theatreland.

Million Dollar Quartet appears at the Noel Coward Theatre and is currently booking to Saturday 1st October 2011.
