Profile: Amelia Lily
American Idiot, the popular musical based on the hits of Green Day, continues its run at the Arts Theatre in London’s West End and one of the stars appearing in the production is Amelia Lily, who plays Whatshername.
But prior to her arrival at the Arts Theatre, Lily was already known to audiences thanks to her appearances on shows like The X Factor and for her charts hits. So as she continues to entertain the crowds in American Idiot (until the show closes towards the end of November), we take a look a brief look at her career.
Amelia Lily was born in Middlesbrough in 1994 and also went to school in the area, eventually beginning her journey to the top when she was in high school and began to sing. Years before she landed on the stage in The X Factor she was already finding audiences thanks to her online music work.
But it was the ITV talent show that brought her to her biggest audience yet. She managed to progress through the eighth series of the show in 2011 and although she didn’t win she still found her work broadcast across the nation and this brought her plenty of attention.
She went on to release various singles that entered the charts, from You Bring Me Joy to Party Over and California, cementing her as a new talent to keep an eye on, and she also appeared on stages around the country.
This stage work has not only included numerous solo performances as a singer, but also as a cast member of musicals and prior to appearing in American Idiot at the Arts Theatre she also appeared in a touring musical in 2015.
So she brings plenty of talent to the stage of the Arts Theatre when she makes her mark on the role of Whatshername in American Idiot. The Green Day musical is naturally attracting plenty of fans of the US rock band and this will surely add to her fame and her place in the spotlight. With many hit songs from the famous band performed onstage and a story inspired by their album of the same name, it has attracted many West End audiences.
Those audiences can continue to catch Amelia Lily in the production as it continues at the Arts Theatre until Sunday 22nd November 2015.
