Ronan Keating in Once at the Phoenix Theatre
The Boyzone Star Making His West End Debut in the Popular Musical from November
The makers of the hit musical Once have landed another casting coup for the production at the Phoenix Theatre. From November, fans headed to the West End will have the opportunity to see Ronan Keating in the lead role of Guy, following in the footsteps of current performer David Hunter, previous star Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who) and the originator of the role in the West End, Declan Bennett. Glen Hansard played the role in the film version from 2006.
Keating is making his West End debut in the show, in the same year that his fellow Boyzone performer Keith Duffy will be appearing in A Handful Of Stars at the Trafalgar Studio 2. They are just two of the members of the his Irish boyband that released a number of hit songs in the 1990s from albums like Said And Done, A Different Beat and Where We Belong, among others (recent years have also included Brother). Keating has also enjoyed a solo career with released like Ronan in 2000 and Fires in 2012.
In addition to his music work, Keating has also started an acting career in recent years, with work in the movie Goddess and Postman Pat: The Movie (the latter seeing him lend his vocals to the title character’s singing voice).
Once The Musical is based on the 2007 Irish movie and follows a Dublin busker who meets a Czech immigrant. The pair bond over their shared love of music and what unfolds is a unique love story with plenty of memorable songs, all of which were penned by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the performers who played Guy and Girl on the big screen.
Audiences will undoubtedly be eager to pick up theatre tickets to see the show and if they wish to see Keating in the role of Guy, they will find him in performances from 17th November 2014 to 21st March 2015. David Hunter continues to play Guy in the mean time.
Meanwhile, Once The Musical continues to run at the Phoenix Theatre and is currently booking to Saturday 4th July 2015.
