Young Frankenstein - Garrick Theatre

The musical adaptations of hit films continue to roll into the West End in 2017, with the recent announcement that The Toxic Avenger will be headed to the Arts Theatre and the news earlier in the year that Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein is also coming to Theatreland.

It’s the latter news that is the focus of today’s announcement as the cast has been revealed for the anticipated production at the Garrick Theatre. The West End premiere of the well known story is set to begin in September 2017 (the same time of year as the mentioned Toxic Avenger) and now we know who will be bringing the iconic roles to life.

Perhaps one of the more surprising names on the list is Ross Noble, who takes on the role of Igor in the production. However, this will be the second time that Noble has taken to the stage in a Mel Brooks’ role, following on from his appearance as Franz Liebkind in The Producers on tour.

Meanwhile, Hadley Fraser has been cast as Dr Frederik Frankenstein, Gene Wilder’s role from the film. He is the grandson of Victor Von Frankenstein and at the beginning of the show we find him as a New York City-dweller trying to hide from his grandfather’s legacy. However, when he inherits the Transylvania property his point of view is soon changed as he grows a bigger passion for his grandfather’s work than he first realised. As long as his servants find him the right brain, he could continue where his famous relative left off!

Ross Noble is best known for his stand-up comedy work, having toured the UK with numerous shows. He also brought one of them to the West End, with his Unrealtime performance at the Garrick Theatre recorded for a DVD release. In addition to that and The Producers he has also presented Brain Dump and Tangentleman and appeared on panel shows like Have I Got News For You and QI.

Noble and Fraser will be joined by Lesley Joseph in the role of Frau Blucher alongside further cast members like Summer Strallen, Dianne Pilkington, Imogen Brooke, Patrick Clancy, Matt Crandon, Nathan Elwick, Kelly Ewins-Prouse, Andrew Gordon-Watkins, Sammy Kelly, Richard Pitt, Harriet Samuel-Gray, Gemma Scholes, Emily Squibb, Aron Wild and Josh Wilmott.

Young Frankenstein opens at the Garrick Theatre on Tuesday 10th October 2017 (with previews from Thursday 28th September 2017).
