Rufus Hound Confirmed for The Wind In The Willows at the London Palladium
Throughout this year we’ve been hearing reports of the new touring version of The Wind in the Willows, the Julian Fellowes, George Stiles and Anthony Drewe adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s timeless story. The musical announced that it would be heading to locations like Plymouth and Southampton earlier this year, with the latter still welcoming audiences until later this month, and it also indicated plans for a London run in 2017.
Now that has been confirmed, with The Wind In The Willows confirmed for the West End’s London Palladium next summer, complete with star Rufus Hound in the role of Mr Toad.
As a musical from Stiles & Drewe it is bound to attract positive attention when it opens next year as the duo has been responsible for various hit musicals over the years, including the current production of Half a Sixpence.
They commented on the announcement of the West End version of The Wind In The Willows, saying “It's so thrilling to be coming to one of London's greatest theatres with this brand new version of The Wind in the Willows.
“We've had a joyous time working again with Julian Fellowes and writing a score that celebrates this quintessentially British classic in all its eccentric glory.”
Producer Jamie Hendry echoed their thoughts, saying “Following wonderful receptions in Plymouth and Manchester where The Wind in the Willows has delighted adults and children alike, I’m thrilled that a wider audience will be able to share in the joy of this glorious new musical at the London Palladium.”
Also sharing the joy is Rufus Hound, who has made a name for himself on a London stage following many years on our television screens on popular panel shows. The comedian has previously appeared in the likes of One Man, Two Guvnors in the West End and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Savoy Theatre, amongst others.
When the tour was originally announced earlier this year he commented “I - like so many of us - was weaned on The Wind in the Willows, so this is an incredibly special opportunity.
“Bringing these adventures to a brand new audience is almost as exciting as a gleaming new motorcar. Roll on rehearsals! Poop poop!”
The Wind In The Willows is at the London Palladium from June 2017.
