Mamma Mia! - Novello Theatre

A lot of attention has recently been granted to new shows and revivals opening in the capital in 2017 and 2018, with Bat Out of Hell The Musical and Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour in the headlines. Now we turn our attentions to one of the productions that has proven to be one of the most popular shows in town since it opened in the West End in 1999 – Mamma Mia!

A new press release has revealed the names of those joining the cast this June, with Sara Poyzer as the new Donna Sheridan at the musical’s home of the Novello Theatre. She replaces the outgoing Linzi Hateley in the role, whilst Christopher Jordan-Marshall, Katie Graham, Jacqueline Braun, Georgina Castle, Bobbie Little, Harriet Bunton, Damian Buhagiar and Nye Rees also join the cast.

Mamma Mia! is, of course, one of the country’s best known jukebox musicals, which tells an original story that is amplified by the songs of ABBA. It follows Sophie Sheridan and her attempts to discover the identity of her father in time for her wedding at her Greek Island home. Utilising the diary of her mother, Donna, she narrows it down to three men, promptly inviting the entire group and leaving her mother reeling!

Sara Poyzer is no stranger to Mamma Mia! having played Donna at the Prince of Wales Theatre and on the touring version of the production. She has appeared in a wealth of well known shows, including Billy Elliot The Musical at the Victoria Palace Theatre and Othello at the Trafalgar Studios, in addition to regional shows like Up ‘n’ Under at the Haymarket, Leicester, and Abigail’s Party at the Theatre Royal, York. Audiences might also recognise her from various screen credits, which has included appearances in shows like Doctors and 90s series Playing The Field.

So as new shows open in London, Mamma Mia! continues strong. The casting announcement comes with a booking extension so audiences can now choose dates up to Saturday 3rd March 2018. Tickets for those new dates go on sale in April 2017.
