Sarah Lancashire to star in Betty Blue Eyes
Sarah Lancashire is to take on a character in the stage adaptation of Betty Blue Eyes.
The actress is performing in the role of the uptight Joyce Chilvers in the musical which is based on the Alan Bennett film of the same name, Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail revealed.
Lancashire performs the part of a chiropodist's wife who is involved in a scheme to get a suckling piglet to form part of a banquet to celebrate the wedding of Princess Elizabeth to Prince Philip in 1947.
Producer Cameron Mackintosh told the newspaper that he was amused that the announcement of the new production coincided with the news of the royal engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton.
"The country was in the same economic situation then," Mr Mackintosh stated. "It was a time of austerity, same as it is now and a royal wedding always helps lift the gloom."
The production will open at the Novello Theatre in April and follows the acclaimed play Onassis, which is currently starring Robert Lindsay at the venue.
