Sheridan Smith gets Legally Blonde award nomination
Sheridan Smith has received a nomination for her part in the musical version of Legally Blonde.
The 29-year-old star has been shortlisted by the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for the prize of best actress for her role as Elle Woods.
Her success was particularly noted by the newspaper as it is rare for a star of a musical to be nominated for a serious acting role, with Smith being selected alongside actresses including Sophie Thompson for Clybourne Park and Nancy Carroll in The Dance.
The Royal Court Theatre picked up the most nods overall, with productions staged at the venue in the past year scooping 11 of the nominations, including all three for the most promising playwright award.
Smith is scheduled to continue in the musical until January 9th 2011, while the production is set to play at the Savoy Theatre through to October 22nd, with Simon Thomas, Denise Van Outen and Carley Stenson also performing.
